PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A Portland Public Schools employee is facing charges of sex abuse involving an underage girl.

Brett Christy-Hamilton, 31, was arraigned in court Monday on two counts of first-degree sex abuse.

According to court documents, the alleged crimes occurred on Nov. 2, 2015 and Nov. 3, 2015 involving a 7-year-old girl.

A Portland Public Schools spokesperson said Hamilton was hired as a paraeducator with the district beginning in the 2009-2010 school year. He most recently worked at Whitman Elementary School and was at Marysville Elementary School for the 2014-2015 school year. .

Hamilton was previously employed by Portland Public Schools in temporary student worker assignments in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Hamilton was placed on leave from the district on Nov. 5, 2015.

A spokesperson said the district will cooperate with any forthcoming investigation.

Hamilton pleaded not guilty in court Monday and was released from jail after posting bail. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 29.
