Police: Albany man arrested after beating grandmother with baseball bat

ALBANY, OR (KPTV) -

An Albany man was arrested after he attacked his 79-year-old grandmother with a baseball bat and then trying to kill his father with a knife.

Albany Police said Shawn Oard, 34, broke into his grandmother's house on Tuesday. Oard smashed glassware then forced his way into a bedroom where his grandmother was hiding.

According to police, Oard beat her with a bat he ripped from her hands. Oard then said he was going to kill his father. He went to the RV park where his father lives. His father was able to fight Oard off.

Oard was arrested and taken to the Linn County Jail. His bail is set at $675,000.

The grandmother was taken to the hospital. Her condition is unknown.
