PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

At least one person is in the hospital after a car crashed into an I-5 construction zone and burst into flames Thursday.

Oregon Department of Transportation officials said the crash took place in the middle of the Interstate Bridge around 3:25 a.m.

ODOT said two lanes had been closed for overnight electrical work when a car carrying three passengers crashed into the construction site and into attenuator truck.

According to officials, the driver fled from the scene.

ODOT said a woman and small child were locked inside the car when it caught fire.

An ODOT contractor was forced to break a car window with a tool to help the two occupants escape from the car.

The man suffered several cuts from the glass and had to be taken to the hospital.

A construction flagger also suffered minor injuries.

Portland police said they are still searching for the driver, who is described as a Hispanic woman in her 20s.

The right and middle lanes were closed for several hours while officials investigated. Crews were able to reopen all lanes around 6:30 a.m. Drivers should still expect delays on their morning commute.
