Several employees at a waste management facility stopped a burglary suspect from getting away from deputies in Hillsboro Wednesday.

The Washington County Sheriff Office said they responded to a report of a burglary at the 3900 block of Southwest Minter Bridge Road around 2:15 p.m.

The homeowner told deputies that she came home to find an intruder, 23-year-old Oscar Mondragon, inside her house.

Mondragon allegedly ran from the house and attempted to steal the homeowner’s car. She confronted him and he then ran to the Waste Management Landfill further down the street.

Landfill workers said they saw Mondragon enter a storage shed on the property.

Several workers were able to detain Mondragon before deputies arrived at the landfill.

According to witnesses, the suspect was attempting to steal tools from the shed.

Mondragon was taken into custody without incident. Deputies said he was wearing clothes taken from a bedroom of the house where he was first seen.

He is charged with burglary, theft, and criminal mischief.
