A man was arrested on charges including manslaughter after a crash killed a Salem woman and injured her 9-year-old daughter, according to police.

Emergency crews responded to the 1900 block of Silverton Road Northeast at 11:20 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators said 19-year-old Estaban Alvarez-Ayala was driving his 2007 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on Silverton Road when he crossed into the westbound lane.

Officers said his truck hit an oncoming 1999 Acura Integra. The driver of the Acura, 35-year-old Shana Lucas of Salem, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her 9-year-old daughter was in a booster seat in the back of the car and the girl was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Alvarez-Ayala was examined at the hospital and subsequently arrested on charges of second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault and reckless driving.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Salem Police Department Traffic Control Unit.

Silverton Road was closed in the area for more than five hours.
