ALBANY, OR (KPTV) -

Police are on the hunt for the person who tried convincing a teenage boy to get into his van Wednesday night.

Police say the 15-year-old was walking home from an open gym night at South Albany High School when a stranger approached him. The teen said he hid until the driver left the area.

According to police, the boy ran home and told his parents what happened, and then they called police.

Police said the vehicle is described as a white full-size van with tinted windows and a 3-inch red stripe in the middle, possibly with chrome wheels and an Oregon tree-style license plate.

Neighbors said they fear the street has been targeted.

“Kids frequent this street, so it’s scary,” one neighbor said. “I haven’t seen this van in the area ever, so it’s got to be from out of town.”

If you have any information on this case, you are asked to call Albany police.
