SEASIDE, OR (KPTV) -

A 13-year-old boy from Oklahoma who was in Seaside for a family reunion died after being pulled from the ocean.

Seaside lifeguards spotted two boys struggling in the water at 3:36 p.m. Thursday. As the lifeguards entered the water, crews from Seaside Fire & Rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard were called to the scene.

Carter Moore, 14, of Kingston, Oklahoma, was pulled from the water a short time later. His cousin, Conner Moore, 13, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was spotted by a Coast Guard helicopter crew and brought to shore.

Conner Moore was reported to have been in the water for quite some time before he was found.

Both boys were taken to a Seaside hospital. Conner Moore was pronounced dead at the hospital. Carter Moore was flown to a Portland hospital and released Friday morning.

Investigators said the two cousins were traveling with many other family members from out of state. They were in Seaside for a family reunion.

"As warmer days are forecast for the upcoming weekend and we move deeper into summer, Seaside officials want to remind the public that the ocean waters can present many dangers. Please use extreme caution, use the buddy system and avoid swimming in areas that have been recognized to be prone to rip currents," according to a statement from the city of Seaside.
