PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

He was gunned down on the streets of north Portland 23 years ago, and Tyrone Jones’ murder is still unsolved after all this time.

His daughter is sharing her memories of what happened that day, hoping it shakes up new leads.

"My dad was a loving man and didn't deserve it, at the age of 27 he was murdered, and we need to know who his murder is," Recarr Jones said.

Recarr was just a little girl when her father was killed. She had no idea their goodbyes on that July day 23 years ago would be their last.

"It has impacted my whole life, it's still impacting me now," she said.

Investigators say Jones was found shot to death off of North Haight Avenue near Ainsworth Street on the night of July 22, 1993.  His car was found three days later less than a mile away from the crime scene.

"We're always looking at cases with an eye to new technology and what evidence is available now that wasn't then," Portland Police Detective Brendan McGuire said.

McGuire is still working to track down Jones killer after all this time.  While going through old photos and interviews, he's learned that Jones left his apartment around 11:30 on the night of his murder.

His fiancé told detectives back then that she heard male voices arguing outside of the home, followed by car doors closing, which she recognized to be the sound of Jones' Buick.

Five to ten minutes later she says she heard a gunshot.

"The fact that he got into a car with someone and drove for a certain distance is an indication that he knew the person or people involved," McGuire said.

The detective says there's been one person of interest detectives talked to back in the ‘90s but no official suspects or witnesses that they know of.

Jones worked at a Burger King and a gas station at the time he was killed.  McGuire believes he also sold marijuana on a very small scale.

Investigators say Jones had ties to a local Blood gang, though he personally was not an active member of any gang and they aren't sure if any of this has anything to do with his death.

"The general consensus from those interviewed at the time was that they couldn't think of anyone who wanted to harm him," McGuire said.

All of the unknowns about what happened to her father eat away at Recarr, who says all she wants is to know is why her father was killed and who pulled the trigger.

"It would mean the world and it would give me closure, so I wouldn't have to think about what really happened and I'd know," she said.  "We've waited 23 years, and it's important out of the kindness of your heart come to us tell us."
