PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Olympic hopes and dreams will be achieved in the coming weeks as the summer games begin in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and it will be a first for Portland's own U.S. volleyball star, Kim Hill.

The Portland Christian High School alum, who went on to play at Pepperdine University, has made the United States squad.

Hill plays professionally in Italy and first wore the red, white and blue three years ago, helping lead her country to its first major international title, where she was named MVP of the FIVB Tournament.

Fox 12 up with the 2008 PCHS graduate on the phone this week from the U.S training grounds in Anaheim as the outside hitter bumps in to her first Olympic games.

"Really surreal to be honest. It is such an honor," Hill said. "If you had even told me four years ago that I would be here, I would have said you were lying. It has been a crazy couple of years but life and God have given me what I thought I never would be but I am so grateful for it."
