A man shot and killed his dog with a .22 caliber rifle in his garage and intended to throw the dog's body into the water at Multnomah Falls, according to court documents.

Deputies responded to the home of Duane Wilson, 44, on the 2600 block of Southeast Evans Avenue on Thursday after receiving a report that Wilson had shot his dog the previous night.

A probable cause affidavit states a deputy contacted Wilson's wife who said her husband was in the yard to dig up their dog's body, after burying it the previous day, and planned to take it to Multnomah Falls.

Court documents state Wilson told the deputy that he shot their dog, Deucy. Deputies said they seized the .22 caliber rifle used in the shooting.

The deputy also found an AR-15 and five more firearms in the home, according to court documents.

Wilson and his wife did not provide any explanation of Deucy being so ill that she had to be put down, a probable cause affidavit states. A motive for the shooting was not released.

According to the affidavit, they both said Deucy had experienced some diarrhea recently, and the woman added she had been intending to take the dog to the veterinarian. Investigators said the dog was otherwise reported to be healthy.

Wilson was arrested on charges of first-degree aggravated animal abuse and unlawful use of a weapon.

He was released from jail following his arraignment Friday. As part of his release agreement, Wilson was ordered to not have possession of weapons, pets or alcohol.
