People around the city will tell you to “Keep Portland Weird,” but the Rose City had an extra dose of Weird Monday.
“Weird” Al Yankovic posted a photo of himself on the corner of Burnside and 9th Avenue late in the afternoon.
The post showed Yankovic sitting at a purple piano with the logo for the late artist Prince painted on the side and words “Heroes” stenciled on the back in honor of the late David Bowie’s hit song.
The piano is part of the campaign from Piano.Push.Play. The group works with local piano companies to rescue old pianos that are still in great shape then puts pianos out on the sidewalk each summer and lets anyone who wants to, enjoy the experience of making music.
The artists who designed this piano, named “Fiona,” said the instrument was “a tribute to two of Pop’s most influential cultural icons.”
