PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

An iconic Portland business owner known for his colorful TV commercials and catchy slogans has died.

Tom Peterson's daughter confirmed to FOX 12 that her father died Monday morning of natural causes. The family also posted the news on Facebook.

Peterson had been battling Parkinson's disease for years.

Peterson and his wife Gloria sat down with FOX 12 in 2014. Tom Peterson, then 84 years old, was under 24-hour care at Emerson House at the time.

The Petersons reminisced about their home furnishings business, as well as the commercials and promotions – including free haircuts to match his trademark buzz cut – that helped make Tom Peterson a household name for many families in the Portland metro area for decades.

Tom Peterson was perhaps best known for saying, "free is a very good price."

"I was very, very busy. No time to fool around, all work and no play," said Tom Peterson in 2014.

"It was a good business, he enjoyed the business, he really did and he liked working with customers and they appreciated him," Gloria Peterson said in 2014.

Family members are beginning the process of making funeral arrangements.
