The 13-year-old girl that went missing at a Washington County campground Monday night has been found safe, according to Mountain Wave Search & Rescue officials.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said Emma Beggs of Beaverton was camping with her father at Gales Creek Campground, just off of Highway 6. Her family reported her missing Monday night after she went for a three-mile trail run around 6 p.m. and never returned.

Her family searched for her for some time. Due to poor cell phone service, family members were forced to drive out of the area and call the sheriff's office around 9:45 p.m.

Deputies were unable to locate her after arriving. Search and rescue teams from Washington and Tillamook counties were called to the scene and searched throughout the night.

WCSO officials said spotty radio reception and rugged terrain hindered their search progress.

Emma is an avid runner and said she is training for the cross country team. She decided to go for a run, but became lost looking for a bridge.

She said she made arrows out of sticks so she would know which way she was going and to alert anyone trying to find her.

Emma said she walked all night.

Just before 9 a.m. Tuesday, Emma flagged down a truck on a logging road. The driver called 911.

Deputies said she was nine miles away from where she had started.
