It's the gift of a lifetime for a guitar lover, an Eric Clapton signature Fender Stratocaster.
A local jazz musician was one of thousands of entries in a national Clapton guitar giveaway and he won the big prize.
It all started when he put his name in a box by the register at Portland’s Music Millennium.
Local jazz musician Chance Hayden put his name into a drawing box at Music Millennium a while back to win a copy of Clapton’s latest album, "I Still Do."
The winner would get two options, take the album on a collector’s edition USB drive or have their name put in the hat with customers from 30 other independent record stores from across the country.
When Chance got the call from Music Millennium, telling him he'd won the in-store drawing, he chose to try his luck once again.
Taking a chance, he won the guitar, an Eric Clapton signature model Stratocaster valued at $1,600.
Music Millennium owner Terry Currier said he feels like Chance Hayden’s win was a win for his store as well.
To see the winner of the guitar contest in action, the Chance Hayden trio will be playing Thursday night at Jimmy Mac's in the Pearl District at 6 p.m.
