Salem apartment complex hit by gunfire two nights in a row

Posted: Updated:

For the second time in two days, an apartment complex was shot at while tenants were at home.

The complex on Lee Street in Salem was first shot up on Sunday.

Witnesses told police they heard gunshots just before midnight. One tenant said he opened his door and came face-to-face with the shooter.

"We opened up the door and saw the guy walking past us and he said sorry about this and kept on walking," James Kelley said. "My first reaction was hitting the floor and duck down because you know bullets are flying."

Then on Monday night, tenants told police they heard more gunshots. Some said they saw someone drive by in a Honda Civic, roll down the window and start shooting.

According to police, five apartments were hit during Monday night's shooting, but no one was hurt.

Fox 12 spoke to a few people who said the violence that has plagued the neighborhood over the last few weeks is forcing them to move.

"I kind of want to move now," Monica Navarro said. "Its just an unsafe neighborhood."

The investigation is ongoing and police ask if you have any information on these cases to call Salem police.
