Longview police officer injured while trying to keep loose cow out of traffic

LONGVIEW, WA (KPTV) -

A Longview police officer is in the hospital with an injured foot after he tried to keep a loose cow from running into traffic.

The Longview Police Department said they were called out to a traffic complaint at 3:29 p.m. Tuesday after someone said a cow was running loose near the 700 block of Ocean Beach Highway.

Police said the cow made its way to the 3100 block of Pacific Way where the owner tried to get control of the cow.

According to police, the cow charged its owner and then rammed an officer in the chest.

A Longview officer injured his foot while trying to keep the cow out of traffic.

According to police, officers tried to use a taser to gain control of the cow but were unsuccessful. At the owner's request and due to safety concerns to the public, the cow was put down by officers.

The cow's owner and the officer were checked by medical personnel on scene. The officer was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
