Oregon Brewers Festival ready for hot weekend

Posted: Updated:

The 29th Annual Oregon Brewers Festival kicks off Wednesday at Tom McCall Waterfront Park.

This year 111 beers will be on tap from all over the world.

"It is a good way to see a lot of diversity of the beers, also the diversity of the people," Mark Strooker said.

Strooker is from the Netherlands, he came with three other people to Portland and brought beer from their brewery.

"Each year a delegations of Dutch brewers comes over to the Oregon Brewer's Festival to have Dutch beers here," Strooker said.

One thing they noticed when they landed in Portland Tuesday was the heat.

Organizers are expecting temperatures during the first few days to be in the 90's.

"The last two or three years have been really hot," volunteer Garu Butenschoen said. "It is nice today, it's about 80 degrees but we've got a lot of shade."

Butenschoen, has been a volunteer with the festival for 8 years, he says hydration is going to be key.

"Stay hydrated," Butenschoen said. "It can't just be beer, you've got to drink lots of water with it too."

Organizers say they will have misters going and plenty of water on hand.

"We've got free potable water for everybody and we also allow people to bring in their own bottled water," organizer Chris Crabb said.

The festival begins Wednesday and runs through Sunday.
