WASHINGTON COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Fire officials in Washington County issued a burn ban to all residents Wednesday.

On July 29, fire season will officially be underway, according to Forest Grove Fire & Rescue. This means all outdoor burning is now prohibited until further notice.

Firefighters said cooking with a gas grill or solid fuel barbecue is still allowed in the county, as well as small recreational or warming fires.

However, fire agencies may choose to further restrict these exceptions later in the summer depending on the fire conditions.

In terms of forest lands, fire officials said public closures and land use restrictions will be in effect for fire safety purposes.

Forest Grove firefighters would like remind the public that a large majority of wildfires are started by human acts such as disposing of smoking materials improperly, leaving campfires unattended, and using gas operated tools during the hottest hours of the day.

If you have any questions on wildfire safety, contact your local fire department.
