SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

For the first time, a marijuana exhibit will be part of the Oregon State Fair.

There was an informational event last year regarding marijuana at the fair and organizers said they did not receive any complaints.

The marijuana exhibit will be in a paid commercial space and is not a sanctioned competition of the Oregon State Fair. Organizers of the exhibit said they do plan to give out ribbons for the best plants.

Organizers said the plants are not mature and can't be harvested.

The display will be in a greenhouse with its own entrance and extra security.

Fairgoers interested in seeing the marijuana plants will need to be at least 21 years old to enter the exhibit.

The Oregon State Fair begins Aug. 26.

Sales of legal recreational marijuana began in Oregon in October 2015.

The story was updated to reflect the marijuana exhibit not being a sanctioned competition of the Oregon State Fair.
