Hundreds expected to fight diabetes in annual Tour de Cure

After living with Type 1 Diabetes for almost a decade, Kristin Steele says she’s not slowing down now.  In fact, Steele plans to log another 69 miles this weekend for the 25th annual Tour de Cure event.

The bike ride and walk is a community fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association. It’s a community that’s helped support Steele through her journey.

Though Steele is constantly monitoring her sugar levels and food intake, she says cycling has helped her escape. Over the last few years she’s ridden across Oregon and even from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

Around 800 people are expected to fight against the disease at Amberglen Park in Hillsboro on July 30th. The event has several distance options, including a 5 or 10 mile family ride and a 3 mile walk.
