VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

Police responding to reports of an explosion outside a Vancouver apartment complex arrived to find a car on fire early Friday morning.

Officers were called out to the Sir James Apartments on the 11000 block of Northeast 18th Street at 4:10 a.m.

An unoccupied car was on fire in the parking lot.

Neighbors ran out with a fire extinguisher to help put it out before it spread.

The owner of the 2005 Mercedes said he has no idea who would have set his car on fire or why they did it.

"They were moving so fast, maybe they hit the wrong car and it was actually targeted against somebody else is all I can think of," he told FOX 12.

The manager of the apartment complex said surveillance cameras caught a black sedan speeding away from the area at the time of the fire.

Vancouver Police Department arson detectives and the Vancouver fire marshal are investigating.

The owner of the car said it actually does still start, but he has no plans to drive it anywhere.
