SISKIYOU COUNTY, CA (KPTV) -

The man suspected of killing a Bend woman, setting off a two-state crime spree and manhunt, faced a judge for the first time Friday.

Edwin Lara, 31, was arraigned in Siskiyou County, California on charges of attempted murder, among other charges.

Lara pleaded not guilty to all charges, and will continue to be held without bail in California. His next hearing date is scheduled for August 16.

Lara is suspected in the killing of Kaylee Sawyer, a 23-year-old Bend woman. Her remains were found earlier this week after she was first reported as missing last weekend. The state medical examiner confirmed her identity Thursday.

Lara was arrested following a high-speed chase near Redding, California.  Police said Lara kidnapped a 19-year-old woman in Salem, shot an elderly man at a motel in Yreka, California and then carjacked a family at gunpoint at a gas station before being arrested.
