MARION COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

Crews discontinued their search for a 21-year-old hiker from the Portland area missing in the Jefferson Wilderness late Sunday due to darkness but will resume their search efforts Monday morning.

Riley Zickel arrived in the Jefferson Wilderness on Wednesday and initially planned to stay one night at Jefferson Park.

On Sunday, the Marion County Sheriff's Office launched a search and rescue operation to locate him.

Search crews were on the ground and in the air. Marion County Search and Rescue is being assisted by the Linn County Sheriff's Office, Polk County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Forest Service and Army National Guard.

Civil Air Patrol, Lane County Sheriff’s Office and Corvallis Mountain rescue will also assist in the search Monday morning.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday evening that Zickel is an experienced hiker who reportedly has the appropriate equipment for his trip and an adequate amount of food.

Deputies released an older photo of Zickel on Sunday but said he still looks very much the same.

Anyone with any information about Zickel is encouraged to call 503-588-5032.
