A landmark and place many in Tualatin went to repair their homes or build their gardens is no more. Early Sunday morning Clark Lumber and True Value Hardware burned to the ground.

The store and lumber yard had been a part of the community for more than 50 years.

The fire sparked around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Firefighters said because of the metal roof the building was like an oven as tools, lumber and paint burned inside.

Neighbors reported hearing several explosions as aerosol cans and other products burned.

As the sun came up the damage became real for many in Tualatin. Store employees watched from the sidewalk as firefighters pumped gallons of water on the smoldering ruble.

For those who live nearby like Greg Strong, seeing the destruction is heartbreaking.

"I came down here right away. I had to see it," Strong said. "I just couldn't believe it, my family told me about it, and it is just a shame, it definitely is."

No one was hurt in the fire and a team of investigators is looking into what caused the fire.
