Fire crews battle brush fires, TVF&R implements burn ban

WILSONVILLE, OR (KPTV) -

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crews in Wilsonville said they were busy Sunday afternoon after medical calls and two brush fires nearby.

"We're definitely in fire season right now," said Capt. Tim Nokes. He added that the grass in some areas is very dry and combined with the dry and hot conditions, it doesn’t take much heat or spark to start a fire.

On Friday, TVF&R banned all outdoor open burning throughout its jurisdiction, including areas served in Multnomah, Clackamas, Yamhill and Washington counties.

The burn ban includes all backyard or open burning, agricultural and land clearing burning.

According to TVF&R’s website, it does not include small backyard recreational fire pits that use clean, dry firewood or natural gas, outdoor fireplaces, portable fireplaces and permitted fireworks displays.

If conditions worsen, TVF&R reports it may ban recreational fires as well. The burn ban will stay in effect until weather conditions lessen fire danger.
