OTIS, OR (KPTV) -

A driver who led law enforcement on a 100 mph chase ran away after crashing into a power pole and rolling down an embankment on the Oregon coast.

A Lincoln County deputy saw a 2007 Nissan Altima cross over the fog line on Highway 101 near Neotsu Drive at 3:29 a.m. Sunday.

The deputy attempted to stop the car, but the driver sped away. The suspect continued onto Highway 18 at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

The deputy continued the chase, along with Lincoln City officers, to the 400 block of North North Bank Road. The suspect lost control, severed a power pole and rolled down an embankment.

Low hanging power lines caused arching, preventing police from reaching the suspect.

Pacific Power crews cut the power to the lines, but a K-9 team was unable to locate the suspect.

Investigators are working to identify the driver.
