Neighbor accused of setting brush piles on fire in Kalama

Posted: Updated:

A Kalama man is accused of setting fire to brush piles on property that is being cleared for development.

Kurt Davidson, 49, was arraigned in court Monday.

Firefighters responded to Simmons Road at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. They found two brush piles on fire with flames shooting upward of 30 feet into the air.

The brush piles were around 12 feet wide by 6 feet high.

Firefighters got control of the fires and kept them from threatening neighboring homes or spreading to four other brush piles on the property.

The brush piles were created by contractors hired to clear the property for development, according to firefighters.

Investigators said they learned a neighbor was responsible for setting the fires.

Davidson was arrested on the charge of second-degree reckless burning. He is due back in court next month.

A possible motive for starting the fires was not released.
