Northeast Portland residents concerned for safety after shooting

Posted: Updated:

Residents who live in one northeast Portland neighborhood are concerned, saying there’s been multiple shootings near Northeast 7th Place.

“The thing that happens in the neighborhood is always shootings and always late at night,” Bob Vandermeer said.

Early Monday morning, Portland Police Bureau officers responded to shots fired near Northeast 7th Place and Bryant Street. When they arrived, officers report of finding evidence of gun fire and a crashed car.

The Tactical Operations Division’s Gang Enforcement Team (GET) and Gun Task Force are investigating the case.

Officers received a call from a parent saying their 18-year-old son arrived home saying someone had been shooting at him.

PPB said, officers spoke with the victim who told police he was in his car when another vehicle drove by him. The victim also told officers when he heard gunfire, he sped away and crashed into a parked car.

“He drove and lost control or something,” Kati Green said. “[He] ran into my car and pushed it all the way on the curb."

Green said her car was towed after the situation.

Both Vandermeer and Green said it’s not the first time police responded to a shooting in their neighborhood.

On June 12th, North Precinct officers responded to reports of multiple gunfire near the same area. Officers said no one was hurt, but two homes were struck by bullets.

Green said her bedroom wall was hit and the bullet missed her by mere inches.
