Fire crews investigating NE Portland blaze as arson

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Firefighters battled a house fire in Northeast Portland Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred near Northeast Dekum Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Firefighters on scene said the home was vacant and has now burned to the ground.

Crews were initially concerned about the fire spreading to a nearby duplex, and that building did see some light damage to its exterior.

Firefighters say the power line came down near the fire and hit a fence, making it electrically charged.

Crews with Portland General Electric turned off power to the building to clear the power lines.

There were no injuries with this incident.

According to fire investigators, the cause of the fire was arson.
