PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

After 92 years in business, The Lotus Cardroom and Cafe will close to make way for a high-rise boutique hotel project.

Lotus has been open since 1924 and has been a fixture in downtown Portland. It started as a pre-Prohibition soda bar, then was a rumored connection to an underground depression-era brothel, and was also the first legal gambling site in Portland.

The last day of business will be August 20.

Lotus will host an "End of almost a Century" event from 7 p.m. to close on Aug. 20 to celebrate the last day of business. There will be a silent auction of art, photographs and beer signs with proceeds benefiting the Oregon Historical Society.
