A man from the United Kingdom who was in the United States for a month-long motorcycle tour died in a crash on a Forest Service road near Diamond Lake.

Emergency crews responded to Windigo Pass Road, also known as U.S. Forest Service Road 60, about 16 miles north of Diamond Lake in Douglas County, at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies said 50-year-old Alexander Mcinnis Smith of the U.K. was found dead at the scene.

Investigators said Smith and another man were riding motorcycles across Windigo Pass Road when he lost control on loose gravel and crashed.

People in the area attempted CPR, but those efforts could not save him.

Deputies said Smith was in the U.S. for a 30-day motorcycle tour that began July 6 in Alaska.
