Rescue operation launched for hiker who fell 75 feet in Gorge

HOOD RIVER COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A rescue operation was launched for a hiker who fell 75 feet near Tunnel Falls in the Columbia River Gorge.

A witness called 911 at 4:15 p.m. Thursday to report the fall occurring about six miles up the Eagle Creek Trail.

High angle rope rescue teams were called out to assist Hood River deputies with the rescue operation.

There was no immediate word about the age or sex of the hiker who fell. The hiker is said to have some cuts and bruises, and may have a broken rib.

It will take rescue crews a couple hours to reach the hiker, and will be back to the trailhead with the injured hiker after midnight.
