A hiker is in the hospital after he fell almost 75 feet along the Eagle Creek Trail in the Columbia River Gorge Thursday.

The Hood River County Sheriff’s Office said they were able to rescue the man shortly after midnight Friday.

Rescue crews were dispatched to the scene around 4:15 p.m. to the report of a fallen hiker about 6 miles up Eagle Creek Trail near Tunnel Falls.

Officials said the man may have had a broken rib and suffered a few cuts and scrapes. He was not able to walk on his own.

The hiker's name has yet to be released.

It has been a dangerous week for hikers in the Columbia River Gorge. A 20-year-old hiker from New York was killed after falling 70 feet into Punchbowl Falls along the Eagle Creek Trail Wednesday.
