PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
A man found dead outside a northeast Portland church was killed, according to police, and the case is now a homicide investigation.
Officers responded to reports of an unconscious man in the parking lot of St. Rita Catholic Church on the 10000 block of Prescott Street at 9:43 a.m. Thursday.
Police initially called the man's death suspicious, so homicide detectives and criminalists from the Forensic Evidence Division were called out to investigate.
On Friday, police identified the man as 45-year-old Sou Chiew Saechao. The medical examiner determined his death was the result of homicidal violence.
One person was detained for questioning Thursday, but later released. No arrests have been made in the case and police said there is no suspect information.
Investigators said Saechao lived in the neighborhood and frequently slept on the streets.
Anyone with information about this case should contact Detective Brad Clifton at 503-823-0696, firstname.lastname@example.org; or Detective Todd Gradwahl at 503-823-0991, email@example.com.
Saechao's death is the 10th homicide in Portland in 2016.
