SALEM, OR (KPTV) -

Officials at the Oregon State Penitentiary said Saturday that the facility was running on “modified operations” one day after being placed on lockdown following a series of fights between inmates.

According to the Department of Corrections, multiple fights broke out around 2:30 p.m. Friday prompting prison officials to institute the lockdown. Prison staff noted more altercations happened Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Five inmates needed outside medical attention due to the fights, with 155 inmates being placed in special housing due to their participation in the fights.

DOC officials said an investigation into what caused the fights was underway. No prison staffers were reported injured.
