Portland girl gets Make-A-Wish and surprise block party

Posted: Updated:

It was a very special day for one little girl in Portland.

Portland Mayor Charlie Hales declared today Mermaid Day in honor of 10-year-old Wren Grabham.

She has spinal muscular atrophy, a degenerative muscle disease that makes her weaker over time.

Make-A-Wish Oregon asked Wren what would make her happy, she responded saying a swim spa, because it would allow her to get out of her wheelchair and float.

It would also allow her to have pool parties with her friends.

Make-A-Wish Oregon not only granted her wish, they also threw a surprise block party Saturday with more than 150 guests.

There was music from the band The Sentiments, a synchronized swimming performance by the Rose City Raindrops.

Wren was also presented with gifts from mermaids.

Fox 12’s Kaitlyn Bolduc was there to help surprise Wren with her wish.
