Dog owners want answers after day care shuts down without notice

Customers of Growler’s Doggy Daycare in Tigard said they are angry when they found the store shut down without notice.

“They didn’t give anyone information,” Dale Newlon a customer said.

On its webpage, Growler’s is a membership based daycare, boarding and grooming business for dogs. Newlon said he has about $300 worth of services remaining for his dog Charlie when the store was forced to shut its doors.

On July 29th a note was put up stating the landlord had changed the business’s locks since the tenant’s failed to pay rent and operating expenses.

“I have no idea what may be happening,” Newlon said. Since the closure, he and another customer Kelly Cano said they have not heard from the owner, Kevin York about the business.

Fox 12 reached out to York who said he opened up the day care in October of 2015, has at least five hundred customers and hopes to reopen the business. He emailed his customers Saturday evening stating the issue lies with their landlord and the issue is a matter of their lease agreement.

“We are not done fighting and we plan to continue this fight until we've exhausted every possible solution,” York wrote.

Newlon hopes he will be able to receive his money back or find answers.

“It was a first class operation, it really was,” Newlon said.
