Man found dead next to vehicle after shooting in NE Portland; no suspects

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A 28-year-old man was found dead next to a vehicle in northeast Portland after a shooting late Sunday night.

Police received multiple reports of gunfire on the 2100 block of Northeast 81st Avenue at around 11:54 p.m.

Officers arrived and found a man down in the street next to a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Evidence of gunfire was located at the scene and witnesses told officers they heard a car speed away after the shots were fired.

Homicide detectives and criminalists from the Forensic Evidence Division were called out to investigate.

Police said there is currently no suspect information and no apparent connection to gang activity.

The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy Tuesday.

The victim's name will be released after the autopsy is complete and his family has been notified.

The Portland Police Bureau reports this is the 11th homicide in Portland in 2016.
