GLADSTONE, OR (KPTV) -

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said an officer was involved in a shooting with a suspect who barricaded himself and a hostage in a Gladstone Subway Monday night.

Gladstone police said at 6:20 p.m. an officer tried to stop the suspect on a bike for a municipal code violation but the suspect took off. Another officer found the suspect in a Subway parking lot, located at 19520 Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard.

Police said the suspect turned and fired at the officer. The officer, Sgt. Lee Jundt, was shot in the vest and is doing OK.

The suspect then barricaded himself in the Subway and took a woman hostage. Police said more people were inside the Subway but were able to get out.

Clack Co. Sgt. Jensen said at 6:40 p.m. a SWAT team was deployed. The suspect was in contact with SWAT and made several demands. Those demands are not known at this time.

Around 8 p.m., SWAT fired two shots that struck the suspect. The suspect went down and the SWAT team made their way into the Subway.

SWAT safely secured the hostage, who was unharmed.

SWAT trauma surgeons were on scene and began working on the suspect, who was taken to Willamette Falls Hospital. The condition of the suspect is not known.

The identity of the suspect has not been released.

Investigators will be on scene for several hours.

Clackamas Co. Sheriff's Office said Highway 99E near Gloucester will be shut down periodically. They are asking people to avoid the area.
