PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Officials arrested a man Tuesday allegedly involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash along Highway 26 near the Vista Ridge Tunnels that killed one woman and injured one man.

Portland Police Bureau said officers responded to a report that two people had been hit by a car just east of the tunnels around 10:25 p.m. Monday.

Officers arrived and found a 31-year-old woman dead on the highway and a 45-year-old man suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

PPB said the driver of the car did not remain at the scene.

Tuesday morning, 59-year-old Brent McCune called 911 to report that he had been involved in the crash. Based on evidence from the investigation, Portland police arrested McCune at his home on Southwest Martingale Court in Beaverton and seized his 2009 Volkswagen Jetta.

Police said McCune allegedly had been driving southbound on I-405 onto Highway 26 when he struck two people on the roadway.

McCune is facing several charges including two hit-and-run charges and driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Highway 26 was closed for several hours while police investigated. It was reopened around 2:30 a.m.

PPB said this is the 28th traffic fatality in 2016.
