Museum exhibit showcases Oregon comic artists

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Comics are experiencing something of a renaissance and a new exhibit at the Oregon Historical Society aims to showcase the Oregon artists who have contributed to the genre.

'Comic City, USA' opens August 12 at the Oregon Historical Society museum in Portland.

Complete with interactive displays and a station where visitors can create their own comic books, the exhibit showcases the work of 15 Oregon artists, writers and cartoonists.

They include:

  • Carl Barks
  • Anina Bennett and Paul Guinan
  • John Callahan
  • Colleen Coover
  • Homer Davenport
  • Jan Eliot
  • Cat Farris
  • Dylan Meconis
  • Jack Ohman
  • Bill Plympton
  • Mike Richardson
  • Joe Sacco
  • Alex Schomburg
  • Basil Wolverton

The museum is holding a free event on Sunday, August 14 with costumed characters available for photos and artists Anina Bennett and Paul Guinan giving a public lecture on the comic industry.
