PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

There is a cute new addition heading to the Oregon Zoo.

Nora is a polar bear cub born last November at the Columbus Zoo. After the cub’s mother left Nora unattended for prolonged periods, zoo staff began to hand-rear the animal.

When staff started their care, Nora grew from around a single pound to now weighing over 150 pounds.

The Oregon Zoo has not yet set an official debut date for Nora, but noted visitors may be able to see her by mid-October.

She will join another polar bear at the Oregon Zoo, Tasul, who lost her brother Conrad last month.

The staff at the Oregon Zoo are excited about their new addition and think the bears will do well together.

“We are very excited to welcome Nora and are optimistic that Tasul and she will be good companions,” curator Amy Cutting said. “We have an amazing keeper team here, which has enabled our bears to participate in some critical conservation science. We anticipate continuing that with Nora through some cooperative training, which the Columbus Zoo staff have already started in order to provide the best possible care.”
