GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

One man is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was involved in an argument outside a Gresham 7-Eleven store, then run over by a car Wednesday night.

Gresham police said the confrontation began around 11:45 p.m. at a 7-Eleven location at Northeast 188th Avenue and East Burnside Street.

Witnesses called 911 to report that a black man was involved in a verbal and physical fight with another man outside the store.

According to police, the black man started running down 181st Avenue in an attempt to escape the fight, and was chased down by two suspects in a 1991 Jeep Wrangler.

The suspects, identified as 38-year-old Russell Courtier and 35-year-old Colleen Hunt, allegedly ran the man over and fled the scene.

Police arrived two minutes later and said they heard screaming from witnesses just north of the 7-Eleven. They were able to follow the yelling to the victim lying on the sidewalk.

Officers were able to quickly track down the car on 185th Drive and Sandy Boulevard about seven minutes later.

Courtier and Hunt are both in custody. They are facing charges including attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

Detectives said it does not appear that the victim and the suspects knew each other.

Police closed the roads in the area for several hours. All roads are now open.
