GLADSTONE, OR (KPTV) -

Deputies are seeking information about a man recently released from prison who is accused of shooting a Gladstone police officer and taking a woman hostage in a Subway restaurant.

Jeffrey Carl Giddings, 45, is in the Clackamas County Jail facing multiple charges including attempted aggravated murder, kidnapping and possession of heroin.

Police said he shot Sgt. Lee Jundt of the Gladstone Police Department on Monday night, hitting the officer in his bulletproof vest.

An officer had attempted to stop Giddings, who was on a bicycle, for a traffic violation.

According to court documents, Giddings also shot at a second officer during the altercation.

He is then accused of taking a 25-year-old Subway worker hostage. He was captured after officers fired shots into the restaurant, injuring Giddings.

On Thursday, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said they are looking for any known associates of Giddings or any details about contact he's had with law enforcement.

Deputies said he was recently released from federal prison in Sheridan and they are trying to track down where he has stayed since that time.

Giddings is described as a career criminal with numerous convictions in Klamath County from 1995-2016 on charges of burglary, identity theft, unlawful possession of heroin, delivery and manufacturing a controlled substance and felon in possession of a firearm.

At the time of Monday's shooting, Giddings had an active warrant for his arrest out of Klamath County.

Anyone with information about Giddings is asked to contact the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office tip line at 503-723-4949 on online at web3.clackamas.us/contact/tip.jsp and reference case 16-21698.
