PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man was killed in a violent motorcycle crash in Northeast Portland early Friday morning.

The Portland Police Bureau responded to the situation on Northeast Lloyd Boulevard and 7th Avenue around 12:46 a.m.

Officers and medical personnel arrived to find one motorcycle rider dead at the scene.

Police said another motorcycle rider remained at the scene and was detained by officers on suspicion of impaired driving.

According to investigators, it appears that the two male riders were riding westbound on Lloyd Boulevard when the lead rider crashed and hit a tree.

Police believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

The second rider was a friend of the victim, according to police. He was arrested on a DUII charge, but police said he had nothing to do with the crash.

The Traffic Division’s Major Crash Team is investigating the incident.

The names of the riders involved have not been released.
