Posted: Updated:

Deputies with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office say an 11-year-old boy drowned at a Canby park on Sunday.

Just after 5 p.m., deputies received calls reporting an 11-year-old boy had been found underwater and was unresponsive at the Canby Community Park, located at 1348 S. Berg Pkwy.

Deputies and officers with the Canby Police Department arrived at the scene and located the boy. Crews tried to revive the boy, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to deputies, it appears the boy was playing in the water with his family nearby when he disappeared. A family member located him submerged in the river a few minutes later.

Deputies say the boy reportedly did not know how to swim and was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.

His identity has not been released at this time.
