PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -
Millions took the “Ice Bucket Challenge” to benefit ALS research in 2014 and now a Philadelphia man is taking on a new version of the challenge that has him traveling to every state in under a month.
Larry Kaplan’s effort is called the “50 in 30 Challenge,” where he is stopping in all 50 states in 30 days, being doused by a unique bucket at every stop.Tuesday Kaplan visited Voodoo Donuts where co-founders Tres Shannon and Kenneth Pogson emptied buckets of glaze and sprinkles on his head.
Throughout the trip, Kaplan has a goal of raising $100,000. According to the ALS Association, the 2014 campaign raised $115 million, some of which has already funded breakthroughs in ALS research.
Kaplan’s stop in the Rose City marks his Day 16 of his new challenge. Other buckets that have been poured on Kaplan in the campaign have included salmon, roe and ocean water in Alaska, whiskey in Wyoming and maple syrup in Vermont.
