PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Grant Pool has reopened in northeast Portland just in time for a heat wave to hit the metro area.

A ribbon cutting ceremony and a performance by synchronized swimmers ushered in a new era for the venerable pool Tuesday.

The renovations at Grant Pool mark the first project to be completed using funding from the parks bond measure that voters passed in 2014.

The pool's plumbing dated back to the 1920s. Workers replaced pipes, pumps, filters, drains and more.

The pool reopened several weeks ahead of schedule.

Dozens of people jumped into the water Tuesday to mark the occasion, with many saying Grant Pool brings the community together and provides a safe place for families.

Grant Pool will be open every day through Sept. 23.
