HAPPY VALLEY, OR (KPTV) -

An off-duty Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputy was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash with a TriMet bus Tuesday evening near the Clackamas Town Center.

Police responded to Southeast 82nd Avenue and Monterey Avenue in the Happy Valley area at around 5:15 p.m.

Callers reporting the crash told emergency dispatchers the motorcyclist appeared to have sustained critical injuries.

Investigators said a 2015 TriMet bus was heading south on 82nd Avenue when it began to turn left onto Monterey Avenue. The bus turned into the path of a northbound 2016 Yamaha motorcycle, according to police. The motorcyclist collided with the right rear area of the bus.

Crews at the scene determined the man on the motorcycle was an off-duty deputy. He was driving his personal motorcycle.

Oregon State Police identified him as 40-year-old Justin Berry of Oregon City. He was flown to the hospital with injuries described as serious.

The driver of the bus, 58-year-old Daniel Otto, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. He was cited for making a dangerous left turn, according to police.

Five people were on the bus at the time of the crash and none of them were injured.

"The Sheriff's Office thanks all the good Samaritans who stopped to help deliver medical aid to our deputy. The Sheriff's Office would also like to thank Clackamas Fire District #1, American Medical Response and Life Flight for their outstanding response to the crash scene," according to a statement from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
