Portland survivor fights cancer with beauty

Posted: Updated:

Kara Dolce knows all about the physical effects of cancer. But even after a double mastectomy and intensive chemotherapy and radiation treatments, she feels beautiful.

Dolce was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 26. Though it turned her life upside-down, she dressed up for every appointment to lift her spirit. It was during the fight of her life when her best friend’s mom gifted her a pair of mini boxing gloves as a reminder to never give up.

After Dolce became healthy, she founded the non-profit Fighting Pretty. The organization sends “Pretty Packages” to women and girls during and after treatment. Each box contains beauty products such as scarfs, lipsticks and makeup, and a pair of signature pink mini boxing gloves.

So far, the organization has sent packages to more than 2,500 people across the globe in hopes of making every woman feel strong and beautiful.

The Portland non-profit recently teamed up with the national beauty subscription service GLOSSYBOX. The company released a limited edition Fighting Pretty GLOSSYBOX that includes boxing gloves. All of the proceeds go toward Fighting Pretty.
